Canon EOS Rebel T2i: Comprehensive Review

The Canon EOS Rebel T21 will, to many, seem strangely familiar. That’s because the machinery is a slight rehashing of Canon’s previous model, the T1i, with a minor alteration in price. This new price range, starting at $800, is likely aimed to combat the competition and their impressive, triple digit price tags on items with comparable technological backbone. The new playing ground seems to be high-end cameras hovering around $700-$800, and enter the newest name in the race: the Canon EOS Rebel T2i.

This new model boasts an impressive boost to video capture and playback quality, an improved LCD screen, and an impressive 18-megapixel-camera resolution. Its size and weight, in addition to its external shell, mostly mimic the earlier mode. Weighing just over a pound and mostly the same height, depth and aesthetic as its predecessor, the new model will likely satisfy any Canon T1i fans.

Also similar—the layout and user interface, which has been fairly consistent with Canon products over time. The time proven controls function well and are fairly intuitive like always, so nothing to complain about in that arena.

Now let’s move into pros and cons, shall we?

The Pros:

  • The Canon EOS Rebel T2i has very impressive photographic quality. Its 18 megapixels shine through the fantastic photographs you can take with this model
  • The camera is also quite fast, which is an added bonus and a must for a camera of this price
  • The HD video capture is very commendable for a model of this kind—a fantastic feature that should keep you satisfied
  • The autofocus is faster than previous models and many competitors
  • A beautiful LCD display
  • Easy to transfer files via the SanDisk memory card

Cons:

  • Some may find the camera a tad small and will need to pursue grip
  • Data size can be excessively large with space consuming raw and video files
  • The Viewfinder is the butt of criticism for its sometimes confusing and counter-intuitive nature
  • Video capture layout does not do justice to the HD quality of the videos and is also frustrating to many camera operators
  • There is no included lens-hood on Canon products
  • The RAW format is incompatible with many third-party software programs

At the end of the day, this model is a worthy new model to the Canon series and a fantastic solution for the price tag attached. Click away photograph enthusiasts!
